DIY Tiled Coffee Table

1. Our inspiration... My boyfriend and I are both musicians and were inspired after seeing the custom made abstract electric guitars at the Tokyo Art Exhibition at GOMA

2. We had a wooden coffee table that was missing a top so decided to transform it into a fun custom made 'moog'. After choosing glossy tiles we scraped back the chipboard and played with various patterns.

3. We applied nail glue to the back of the tiles and pressed them firmly down. For the keys we used a tile cutter and purposely made the black keys raised.

4. When applying the grout make sure all dust is wiped off and lightly dampen the grout joints. Mix the powder with water so that it has a toothpaste consistency. Work the grout in a diagonal motion using a rubber float. Remove excess grout with the float and keep wiping tiles gently with a damp cloth. Allow the grout to cure for 24 hours! We used Davco Superfine White Grout.

Our finished coffee table!
It was so much fun to make and now we have a great feature piece!

My Wednesday Wish list...

“I landed in Melbourne from Tasmania at 17, with six suit cases and $50, $30 of which went on the taxi to the city. I didn’t know one single person and not one single person knew me. I was quite hyperactive and did anything anybody asked of me. I was fearless, brave, but frightened”.

ALANNAH HILL

1. One of my favorite Australian fashion designers is Alannah Hill and her latest collection is on the top of my very first Wednesday Wish list... I love the playful coloured socks and ankle stockings under sexy heels as well as her gorgeous range of chic hair accessories.

2. Hot sounds from the Super Group rock gods...Them Crooked Vultures album is a must-have for your CD collection. I saw them live two nights ago at the River stage in Brisbane, and they blew my mind! With a line up of killer musicians Dave Grohl (Nirvana, Foo Fighters) , Josh Homme (Queens of The Stone Age), John Paul Jones (Led Zeppelin) you'll know what I mean when you hear the album. My favourite song is No One Loves Me and Neither Do I.

3. ZoZo the Magic Queen aka Gianna Majzler has recently created a delightful and quirky range of stationary using original 1800 flourishes and fancies, perfect for adding a little magic to your office desk! I bought the 2010 ZoZo the Magic Queen Calendar and can't wait for more of her graphic collages to be released online.
